Donate - An Act of Kindness

Where your money goes:

Your act of kindness creates a ripple effect that changes lives in ways we can't even imagine. The youth of the Makondo area suffer from disease, poverty, and in some cases, even neglect.  Your act of kindness through a general donation to Into Your Hands helps us further our mission to improve rural communities in Uganda by providing access to affordable education.  To donate towards a specific need, view our wish list below and include a note with your donation. For a copy of our 2009 Annual Report, click here.

Wish List 2011

Act of Kindness:  Malaria Net Project

mosquito netsAccording to the World Health Organization, Uganda has the highest rate of malaria infections in the world. In fact, 70,000-110,000 people in Uganda die of malaria every year and malaria claims more lives of children than HIV/AIDS.  Because of malarial infections, students miss an average of 30 days of school a year.  Each new infection is more severe than the last and weakens the immune system.  The most effective way to prevent malaria is through insecticide treated bed nets.  A donation of $25 includes one insecticide-treated mosquito net, training and continued monitoring of proper use and one blanket per family.  Our goal is to provide 40 double nets for the boys dormitory and for 250 St. Denis families.  To purchase a net for one our students or families, click here.

Act of Kindness:  Provide an education.  Sponsor a student.

Hands of Hope studentFor $300 a year, you can provide a Makondo youth with an education through our Hands of Hope Scholarship Program.  As a sponsor, your student will receive full tuition, school uniforms, and schools supplies; and you will receive regular updates from your student.  Our goal for 2011 is to continue to sponsor our existing 160 and 15 new students.

Since so many of our students are graduating from St. Denis and moving on to Vocational Training, Upper Secondary, or University programs, we have added the Hands of Hope Higher Education Scholarship Program and the Hands of Hope University Scholarship Program.  The cost to sponsor one student through Higher Education is $600 per year. A University Scholarship is $1200 per year.  Only 2% of the population enrolls in university studies.  To find out more about our scholarship program, click here.  To sponsor a student, click here.

Act of Kindness:  Purchase a pig!

Send a Piglet Home Program$200 will give an orphaned or disadvantaged youth a chance to start their own piggery business.  After completing a training program and building a piglet shelter at their home, the students receive a female piglet to rear.  Once the female pig is mature and delivers a litter, the new piglets are sold at the market for additional income which pays for household items such as mattresses, soap, clothing, food, and  school fees.  Our goal for 2010 is to provide pigs and training for 30 new students.  Find out more about the Send a Piglet Home Program, click here.  To sponsor a student through the Send a Piglet Home Program, click here.

Act of Kindness:  Invest in a School-Based Business!

Start a BusinessOur young entrepreneurs are eager to experience the success that comes with sound business management.  You can help by "investing" in a St. Denis Self-Sufficiency Project business. Through these school businesses, the students will learn about best business practices and at the same time, generate much needed income for the school. Learn more about the projects, click here.  To make a general donation to the St. Denis Self-Sufficiency Project, click here.

Act of Kindness:  Help orphaned or disabled children

Yiga FamilyOrphaned and disabled children face an uphill struggle.  Many children with disabilities are neglected by family members because they are considered bad luck and a burden on the family.  Through the Medical Missionaries of Mary, we are able to help a few of these unfortunate children.  Your donation in any amount will help children like Paul receive home tutoring and regular monitoring.  Click here to find out more about our Hands of Mercy Program.  To donate to the Hands of Mercy Program, click here.
