Hands of Hope Scholarship Program

Nansamba Mary and FlaviaThe Hands of Hope Scholarships provide scholarships to secondary school students who are unable to pay tuition and school fees. Students are identified based on orphan status, economic need, and academic ability.  Students are provided with tuition, school uniforms, and school supplies.  The well-being of the family and the student is monitored through yearly home visits by local program administrators.    Our students attend secondary, vocational, and post-secondary institutions in order to develop their full potential and become contributors to the improvement of their family and their community.

Hands of Mercy Orphaned and Vulnerable Children Program

Yiga daughter and babyInto Your Hands partners with Medical Missionaries of Mary (MMM) in Makondo, Uganda, to support orphaned and disabled children in the Makondo area.  A recent household survey conducted by the MMM reveals that over 9000 children in the surrounding area are orphaned.   Many of these children live with other caretakers whose hands are already full.  The average household size is eight to ten members who live on less than $20 a month.

Through the Sr. Josephine's Orphaned and Vulnerable Children Program, Into Your Hands provides home tutoring, school fees, food, and regular home visits to orphaned or disabled children of the Makondo community.

Into Your Hands is also committed o assisting the St. Kizito Nursery School managed by the MMM.  Early childhood education programs are rare in rural Uganda.  St. Kizito provides a nurturing and enriching learning environment for the most vulnerable children including those that have special needs.

Hands at Work Enterprise Development Program

Students at computersOur most active program provides school business development training and funds the development of youth or school-based enterprises that generate an income for the either the student or the school.  These school-based business allow the students to gain the practical skills they need to run a successful and profitable enterprise.  Our current programs include the Send a Piglet Home Program and the St. Denis Self-Sufficiency Project.

Traditional academic education falls short in giving graduating students relevant skills to become economically productive.  The Ugandan Ministry of Education and Sports is promoting the inclusion of vocational and entrepreneurship training in secondary schools.

St. Denis will eventually provide various certificate programs in animal husbandry, agriculture, and computer literacy.

Capital and Infrastructure Improvements

dormitory constructionInto Your Hands supports capital improvements to school infrastructure such as:  provision of water and sanitation facilities, construction of school buildings, development of sustainable energy solutions, and acquisition of information technology.  Our current project is the construction of a 100 bed boys' dormitory at St. Denis Senior Secondary School.

Since 2007, Into Your Hands has provided the school community with much needed water collection tanks, bunk beds for the girls and boys, and finished the construction of the school library.

In the near future, a rain catchment system and bore hole well will help both St. Denis and nearby St. Agatha with much needed clean water.
