Meet the Students
The
St. Denis students are the reason Into Your Hands exists.
We exist to nurture the youthful exuberance and boundless
optimism of the young people who attend St. Denis. It is
their passion, vision, creativity, potential, and talent that
drives everything we do. Our greatest satisfaction comes
from seeing our Hands of Hope Scholarship students successfully
graduate from St. Denis, masonry training, nursing assistant
school, other vocational training institutes, or higher
education colleges. We celebrate knowing the girls can
sleep on bunk beds instead of damp mattresses on the floor, and
the boys will soon sleep in their very own dormitory.
Their successes are our own, their hardships become ours, and
their well-being is our mission.
Spotlight: Bbira Luke Ronald, a scholar
Bbira
Luke Ronald is a 2008 St. Denis graduate. He is the first
child in his family to graduate from secondary school.
Bbira managed to receive the highest possible score on his final
Ordinary Uganda National Board of Education Exams. Now he
attends St. Bernard's College to get his Higher Education
Certificate and possibly continue on to university. Bbira
is an example to his peers and a source of inspiration to all
who know him.
Spotlight: Lugemwa Aloysius, a mason
Also
a St. Denis graduate, Lugemwa Aloysius is our first Hands of
Hope Scholarship student to graduate from vocational training
college. In June, Lugemwa graduated from St. Charles
Lwanga Technical Training College with a certificate degree in
Masonry and Technical Drawing. Now that he has practical
skill with which to seek employment, Lugemwa is in a position to
help his brothers and sisters go to school. As is
traditional in Uganda, if they are economically able, the older
siblings are responsible for ensuring the education of their
younger siblings. Lugemwa will fulfill this promise to his
family.
Spotlight: Nalugo Resty, a nursing assistant
Nalugo
Resty graduated from St. Denis in 2007. In June 2009, she
graduated from Rakai Nursing College as a nursing assistant.
Her skills will be of great value to her community as she meets
the needs of the sick and suffering. Nalugo's dedication
to her vocation will have a long lasting impact to the
well-being of her community.
